Comment on our draft Homelessness Prevention Strategy 2020-2025 in our consultation
We are looking for your views on Folkestone & Hythe's draft Homelessness Prevention Strategy for the next five years from 2020 to 2025. The Homelessness Act 2002 requires every local authority to review and renew their Homelessness Strategy every five years. We also realise the necessity to review the districts needs and refresh our strategic objectives around homelessness.
Our previous strategy was a joint East Kent Homelessness Prevention Strategy, adopted by Folkestone & Hythe, Canterbury, Dover & Thanet Council's and agreed in 2014. Over the last few years there has been significant legislative change and welfare reform. Each Council is now focusing on their areas particular issues, identifying a need to now have their own Homelessness Prevention Strategies.
The draft Folkestone & Hythe District Homelessness Prevention Strategy 2020-25 sets out the Council's vision for tackling homelessness within the district over the next five years, improving prevention and early intervention work, and supporting multi-agency working. It is a multi-agency document and the actions set out in this document will be delivered by the Council and our local partner agencies. It is important to continue to work closely with partners and agencies, in the statutory and community sectors, but to also involve local people in exploring and developing housing solutions for all those in need of assistance.
Folkestone & Hythe District Council's has identified the following three key priorities to prevent homelessness occurring wherever possible:
· Priority 1: End Rough Sleeping
· Priority 2: Early Intervention, Prevention & Support
· Priority 3: Maximise Access to Affordable & Suitable Accommodation
Please access the draft strategy here
To progress the Strategy we wish to give you an opportunity to put forward your views and comments on the draft. We would like to hear the views of members of the public, our residents, customers, partners and stakeholders, about the proposed priorities and the actions outlined that will drive our progress. The Strategy once adopted will be regularly reviewed to check and monitored against our objectives
Please take the time to complete our online questionnaire. It will take around 15 minutes to complete and all responses will be anonymous. The consultation will close at 5pm on Friday 2 October 2020.
