Christmas support payment for wet-led pubs

On 1 December 2020, the government announced the introduction of additional support over the festive period for wet-led pubs in areas under Tier 2 or 3 restrictions.

The grant is a one-off payment of £1,000 for pubs that predominantly serve alcohol rather than provide food, and:

  • Are open to the public (outside of the pandemic)
  • Allow free entry
  • Allow drinking without the need for a meal
  • Permit drinks to be purchased from the bar

Who can apply for Christmas support payment for wet-led pubs?

To qualify for the grant, the business must have derived less than 50% of its income from food sales prior to 11 March 2020. Businesses will be asked to declare this is a true statement on their application form.

New businesses established between 11 March 2020 and 1 December 2020 are still eligible for the grant and will be declaring that the above statement is true for the period they have opened.

Businesses must have been trading immediately prior to 5 November 2020. The closing date to apply for this grant is 31 January 2021.

The government will not accept deliberate manipulation and fraud. Any business caught falsifying its records to gain additional grant money will face prosecution and any funding issued will be subject to claw back, as may any grants paid in error.
