Don't be a litterbug - Pick me up before you go go

Residents and visitors to the Folkestone and Hythe area are being encouraged to take their rubbish home by an anti-litter campaign launched by the district council this week.

A parody of the 1980's Wham! classic heads the campaign which has been revived once again after having a successful impact last summer. The fun and catchy take on 'Wake me up before you go go' aims to persuade people to put their litter in a bin or take it home after they've visited the district's beaches and parks.

Children from a local performing arts group, NEON, star in a music video of the re-worded 'Pick me up before you go go'.

Cllr David Monk, Leader of Folkestone and Hythe District Council said: "People need to take responsibility for their own rubbish and not litter the unique district we all enjoy.

"Our teams work hard to keep the district clean. We're providing more enforcement and new signage this summer. These are deterrents but we really need residents and visitors to get on board and take their rubbish home.

"If you do find a bin that is full then just keep your rubbish until the next one, or until you get home. Over spilling rubbish or a bag by the side of a bin is often targeted by animals which causes much more of a mess.

"If you love our beautiful district then support this message and share it with your friends. The more people who are aware, the greater the opportunity for this to make a real impact - and result in less litter."

"Our message is simple - please put your litter in a bin or take it home. Just make sure you 'pick it up before you go go!'"
