Lower Leas Coastal Park play area consultation

The remaining original play equipment at the Lower Leas Coastal Park in Folkestone is heading towards the end of its shelf life.

Ahead of the first planned major refurbishment of the Fun Zone since it was opened in 2000, we want to find out what residents – especially families and young people – want from the district’s flagship play area.

We want it to be awesome too, after all!

What is the plan?

It is expected the project would be completed ready for the 2026 summer season.

We want the new equipment to replicate the stature, quality design and materials of what it replaces, while also sitting respectfully within its environment and minimising ecological impacts.

A refurbishment would also enable improved accessibility at the Green Flag-award winning site, including for parents and carers, following the addition of a Changing Places toilet earlier this year.

This project will be a major investment by Folkestone & Hythe District Council and we’re already working on trying to secure extra funding for the project. So we obviously want to get it right – and that’s where you come in.

How can we get involved?

We’ve launched a questionnaire covering a wide range of topics including types of play, accessibility and themes.

The survey can be found and completed online. Printed copies are also available and can be requested by calling 01303 853000.

After the 10am deadline on Monday 24 February, all feedback will be considered before decisions are made.

Folkestone & Hythe District Council will also be engaging with selected local schools and other key stakeholders in the new year.
