Bulky waste collection

Arrange a collection of your large unwanted items directly from outside your home

You'll need to book and pay in advance to have any bulky waste collected.

This service is not available for businesses, charities or commercial properties, if you require a collection please contact a private waste contractor. 

What we collect

We can collect the following items:

  • white goods, eg fridges, freezers (not commercial) and washing machines (please remember to empty your fridge freezer otherwise we can't take it)
  • cookers
  • lawnmowers
  • furniture, including bed frames and mattresses
  • carpets
  • TVs and small electrical items, eg. DVD players, toasters and kettles

What we don't collect

The council does not collect:

  • garden waste - find out how to join our garden waste scheme
  • rubble, wood, building materials or black sacks of rubbish
  • solid metals, including cast iron and baths
  • glass, including mirrors
  • sinks made of ceramic or metal

Is there a size limit?

  • All bulky items must be 1.8 metres (6 feet) long or less
  • The bulky item should be able to be lifted by two people

You must leave items outside your property by 7am ready for the pickup. If it is not there and visible for the contractor at the time of collection a refund will not be given. 

    Where should I leave the items?

    You must leave them outside your property either on your drive or front garden if you have one.

    If you haven't either of these and are unsure where to leave, contact us to discuss the most suitable area.

    The items should not be left on the path or road.

    We are unable to collect bulky waste from inside your property due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation - please ensure you are able to leave it outside before booking.

    You will be notified of your collection day, which is determined by where you live, during the booking process - this is usually within one week.

    The customer services telephone lines are open from Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm.

    Alternatively, you can take your bulky waste to a household waste recycling centre (tip) - it won't cost you anything.

    If you can't book a collection over the phone

    Apply by post, sending the following information and a cheque made payable to 'Folkestone & Hythe District Council' to Customer Services:

    • your name, address and telephone number
    • what needs to be collected

    What happens next

    If booked over the phone you will need to place the items out for collection as advised during the call.

    If sending in by post we will contact you once your written application has been received to discuss and arrange a suitable collection day.
