Community led housing

We are keen to ensure that any communities who are interested in building new affordable housing for local people in their area have the knowledge and support they need to make their plans a reality.

We have been working in partnership with Dover District Council as well as Thanet and Canterbury council to support community led housing (CLH)  projects.  We jointly put on a CLH conference on 18 June 2019 - which was a great success.

Community led housing is a way for communities to play an active role in solving the housing needs of their local area.

It can take many forms and is flexible to suit the requirements of a range of different scenarios and circumstances. Communities can lead a project or work in partnership with the council or a property developer.

We have been awarded funding via the Government's Community Housing Fund to support communities to deliver new homes. We are doing this by providing training, information and support and helping community led housing groups to access funding.

Community led housing training and events

A range of free training sessions for anyone interested in community led housing has been organised by Dover District Council. The courses are aimed at community groups with little or no experience in property development but they are open to all.

Dover District Council are hosting some Community Led Housing forums which are an informal way to find out more.  Anyone interested in Community Led Housing is welcome to attend Icon for pdf Community led housing forums [127.24KB]

We will be offering funding of up to £10,000 to support community led housing groups in developing their project.  Details of how to apply will be added here shortly.
