What we look for in our staff
Core Values and Competencies:
The council has 4 core values: Customer First, One Team, Thinking Ahead and Performance Counts.
We have built a framework of competencies and behaviours around these values. This framework outlines what we expect from our staff.
When recruiting, we look for people that share these values and operate in line with our competencies and behaviours.
You can find out more in our People Strategy and in our Competency Framework.
The application and selection process:
When applying for a role at the council, your application form will be assessed against the criteria laid out in the job advert, job description and person specification.
If your application is short-listed, you will be invited to the next stage of the selection process. This will involve a competency-based interview as well as other selection exercises. You will be told what to expect when invited for an interview.
When coming to an interview, be prepared with examples of how you have demonstrated your knowledge, experience, skills and abilities, as well as how you operate in line with our values, competencies and behaviours.
Equal opportunities
We're an equal opportunities employer
We aim to set an example of a diverse workforce and are committed to employing disabled people.
We work to promote equality in the way we serve or employ people, making sure no one suffers disadvantages because of their age, disability, gender identity, pregnancy or maternity status, race, relationship status, religion or beliefs, sex or sexual orientation, or social or economic status.
We will take all appropriate and reasonable steps to remove barriers and obstacles to equal opportunities for gaining employment with the council and for progressing in the council's employment at all levels.
