Don't mess it up
'Don't Mess it Up' is a brand new campaign encouraging visitors and residents not to litter and spoil our extraordinary district.
We're incredibly lucky to have such beautiful landscapes and varied wildlife here on our doorsteps in the Folkestone, Hythe and Romney Marsh district. This summer we're on a mission to protect them from litter more than ever before.
You'll see evidence of this popping up all throughout the summer months as we ask members of the public to help keep our district litter free.
Our enforcement team is supporting the campaign on the ground but we need your support to make sure our district stays safe and clean for all.
Here are some small things you can do to make a big difference:
- If you bring it, make sure you bin it. If a bin is already full either try another one or take your litter home with you. Our crews aim to empty the bins in busy areas between 3-4 times a day. However, during particularly busy periods they still get full.
- If you use a disposable BBQ, don't put it straight in the bin when you're finished as this could be dangerous. Wait for it to cool down or cover with cold water before placing in our litter bins. If in doubt, take it home.
- You can notify us of any litter issues via the reporting page on our website. Sharing the information this way ensures that we can respond as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Don't pay the price, keep our district looking nice
Remember dropping litter is illegal. Litterers can be fined or face prosecution in court. Fixed penalty notices can be as much as £150 and if prosecuted and convicted fines can be as high as £2,500.
