Taxi passenger fares

We set maximum taxi fares for journeys within Folkestone & Hythe District based on fares for Hackney Carriages. 

A taxi must have a 'taximeter' fitted, which will show the fare you have to pay. We check these to confirm that they show the correct fare.

Fares are split between tariffs based on:

  • time of day
  • public holidays
  • number of passengers and distance

For each person in excess of one £0.20
For each item of luggage carried outside the passenger compartment  £0.20
For soiling the interior of the vehicle  £50

Journeys outside Folkestone & Hythe area:

Fares to destinations outside Folkestone & Hythe District may be negotiated prior to the journey; if no such agreement is made the maximum fare is that shown on the meter.

Additional Information

All licensed drivers should have their badge on display and the vehicle should be displaying their taxi plate at the rear. Private Hire vehicles should also display side plates and Hackney vehicles should have a roof light. If you are worried that your taxi vehicle or driver is not licensed you should call 999.
