Continued financial support for the Folkestone Sports Centre Trust has been agreed by the council.

Cabinet members meeting on 14 December 2022 acknowledged the impact on the Radnor Park Avenue leisure centre of the pandemic and backed a three-year package providing the trust with an annual grant of £150,000.

The funding largely supports the continued provision of the publicly accessible swimming pool in the town and ensures that young people have a local facility where they can learn to swim.

The council provided additional funding in early 2022 so that the trust could seek expert help to create a business plan for the leisure centre. That business plan predicts that the trust will return to an operating surplus in two years-time.

Cllr Jenny Hollingsbee, Cabinet member for Communities, said: "The trust has a clear plan to recover from the pandemic and to continue to provide a facility for the local community.

"The three-year agreement that we have reached will give the trust real opportunity to show what it can do to deliver leisure facilities for residents."
