Green innovators in the district are invited to share their carbon-busting ideas at an exciting event this year.

The Folkestone & Hythe Sustainable Futures Forum is supported and funded by the Carbon Innovation Lab (CI-Lab). Folkestone & Hythe District Council formed the CI-Lab in June 2022 as part of the District Wide Carbon Action Plan.

The CI-Lab is a collaborative and community-led forum where ideas are exchanged, plans created, and local actions delivered. As part of the CI-Lab, Folkestone & Hythe's Sustainable Futures Forum will see TEDx-style talks giving businesses, community leaders and individuals the chance to share their environmental and sustainability ideas, projects and stories.

Ahead of this forum finale (which will be held in the spring), there will be development events, including coaching and training workshops, with the potential for funding for the most promising projects.

Two public events are being held for people to find out more and how they can get involved. The first is for the community and is online at 7pm on Wednesday 11 January; the second is for businesses and is in person at The Workshop, 32-40 Tontine Street, Folkestone CT20 1JU, at 12.30pm on Thursday 12 January.

Cllr Lesley Whybrow, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: "We know our district is home to some incredible and inspiring individuals, community leaders and entrepreneurs who passionately care about the environment and have some amazing ideas.

"We urge them to come forward to support Folkestone & Hythe's Sustainable Futures Forum in the spring and before that, the two public events."

Leader Cllr David Monk added: "The forum will give our green innovators the platform to share their ideas and, of course, we will need attendees who would like to learn, be inspired and spread the ideas and message of a more sustainable future for our district."
