Folkestone will be the stage for a food festival taking place in August showcasing the best of local restaurants and foodie experiences.

The event will run across the weekend of Friday 2 August, Saturday 3 August and Sunday 4 August in the heart of Folkestone town centre – Guildhall Street and Sandgate Road. Unique tie-ins with local businesses including food masterclasses, demos, pop up food traders and live music will be featured.

Visitors will be able to experience an interactive food tour around the town with special signature dishes from different restaurants.

The food festival is part of the Folke About Town programme bringing vibrancy to the heart of the town – specifically Sandgate Road and Guildhall Street, mirroring the physical regeneration planned for the wider area.

This series of test events is being co-produced with businesses and individuals in the community with the aim that successful ones will be sustained into the future.

Business owner John Grantham runs Cabron in Rendezvous Street and has been a driving force in making the food festival happen.

He said: “We’ve got some fantastic food and drink businesses here in Folkestone and we’re beginning to be recognised as a foodie destination in our own right. I’m thrilled to be helping bring about a festival to showcase our wonderful local produce and local culinary talents.’

A Folkestone & Hythe District Council spokesperson added: “Folkestone is fabulously foodie and the town has been crying out for its own food festival for years. We hope this event will help the ongoing efforts to re-energise Folkestone town centre and become a regular fixture in the years to come.’

The festival will run between 4pm and 9pm on the Friday, and then between 11am and 6pm over the weekend.

The full line up and schedule for the food festival will be released in the next few weeks. Follow @fhextraordinary on Instagram for the latest updates. Visit folkestoneandhythe.co.uk for more information about the Folke About Town series.
