Staff who lost their jobs when Folkestone Sports Centre closed last week are invited to a drop-in support event at the council’s Civic Centre in Castle Hill Avenue on Friday (9 August 2024).
The event will be open from 10am until 1pm and aims to help the staff after the charity running the centre in Radnor Park Avenue had to shut its doors and call in administrators.
On Friday sports centre staff will be able to talk to members of the council’s welfare team and guidance will be given around sources of assistance if they are required.
In addition, there will be advice on training opportunities, applying for jobs and support offered around interview skills.
Staff from the Department of Work and Pensions and East Kent College are also due to attend the event to give advice.
There is no need to book or register for the event.
Council leader, Cllr Jim Martin, said: “We know that many of those working at the centre have been left in extremely difficult positions financially and naturally they are very worried about the future.
“We hope that Friday’s event will bring together those who can help both in the short-term and the long-term and bring some hope for the sports centre staff.”
Former users of the sports centre who are looking for locations and outlets to continue enjoying sport, keeping fit and maintaining a healthy lifestyle should visit the Physical Health and Wellbeing page on the council website.
