More than 40 new affordable homes are set to be acquired by Folkestone & Hythe District Council.

Cabinet members have approved the purchase of 44 properties at Risborough Barracks, secured with the planning consent obtained for the site in Shorncliffe and funded by the council’s Housing Revenue Account.

The homes will be let to applicants on the council’s housing list through Kent Homechoice once they are completed. A mixture of properties for affordable rent and shared ownership will be made available.

Folkestone & Hythe District Council is also ensuring all of the homes will receive energy efficiency upgrades, delivered to EPC rating B, to keep costs down for residents – as well as support the authority’s carbon emission reduction strategy.

Cllr Rebecca Shoob, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, said: “These properties will increase the council’s housing stock and provide much-needed homes for residents.

“Not only will these homes help to meet the target set by the Housing Revenue Account business plan, but the energy efficiency measures – such as solar panels – will also ensure our tenants’ all-electric homes are comfortable for years to come.”
