A loving gift will be received by vulnerable children and young people in the district on Christmas Day thanks to a Folkestone & Hythe District Council initiative.

Some 119 presents have been donated by staff and the Probation Service in this year’s Wish Upon A Star campaign. Folkestone Channel Rotary Club has also contributed £1000 of vouchers.

The council runs the annual campaign as a tribute to former colleague Nicola Baker, who led the project before her sad passing in November 2018.

Cllr Mike Blakemore, Cabinet Member for Community and Collaboration, said: “Wish Upon A Star demonstrates one of the most important aspects of the season – it’s about giving joy to those who need it most.

“The generosity of our staff and community partners is no surprise to me. It’s heartwarming to see everyone come together to do something that will mean so much for our district’s children and young people come Christmas Day.”

Kent County Council’s Early Help, Youth Offending, Adolescent Support and Children’s Social Services teams will be delivering the gifts in time for Christmas Day.
