The future of the Romney Marsh Visitor Centre is the subject of a new public questionnaire and concession opportunity.

Folkestone & Hythe District Council has launched a consultation with a hope of finding out what residents, visitors and businesses think the next chapter for the site should look like.

Promotion of a concession operator is also being marketed by local agent, Motis Estates. The survey will go to support the chosen operator in terms of its offer, how it will help the community and how it might evolve in future.

Romney Marsh Countryside Partnership, with the support of the local authority, has continued to manage the nature reserve since Kent Wildlife Trust left the visitor centre in July 2024.

Respondents will be able to share their views on what they like about the site, as well as what can be improved. Feedback will then be considered as proposals are drawn up.

Cllr Jeremy Speakman, Cabinet Member for Assets and Operations, said: “We’re very committed to the visitor centre and nature reserve. A wide range of responses will ensure we can make an informed decision on its future.”

Located on A259 Dymchurch Road between New Romney and St Mary’s Bay, the visitor centre is set in an 11 hectare nature reserve – Romney Warren, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The survey can be found online and must be completed by 5pm on Monday 17 February 2025. Printed copies of the survey are available and can be requested by calling 01303 853000.
