Residents have the opportunity to shape the programme of the council’s overview and scrutiny committee.
Topics affecting those living in the district will be discussed by members throughout 2025/26 – and suggestions are now being welcomed.
The Levelling Up Fund, Operation Brock, Southern Water and the cost of living are among those considered in the chamber in recent years following submissions.
Ideas do not have to be limited to the council or its services – but cannot include planning applications, licensing matters, housing appeals or disciplinary issues.
Topics should have a relevance across the district. Matters relating to a small area should be raised with ward councillors in the first instance.
Cllr Mike Blakemore, Cabinet Member for Community and Collaboration, said: “This is an excellent opportunity to influence the important work carried out by the council’s overview and scrutiny committee.
"Please let us know what you think members should be investigating – if they’re not already.”
The deadline for submissions is 5pm on Monday 3 March. Visit the council’s website and complete the online form or write to Committee Services, Civic Centre, Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone, Kent, CT20 2QY.
Folkestone & Hythe District Council has sent a letter to the Secretary of State formally requesting the move to a committee system is reversed following a vote.
If declined, a committee system will be adopted either this year or in 2026 – depending on when such a response is received – meaning the overview and scrutiny committee will cease to exist.
If this is the case, efforts will be made to transfer items from the overview and scrutiny committee’s programme into the new structure.
