Folkestone & Hythe District Council is re-opening a Call For Sites as part of the preparation for its next Local Plan – providing a further opportunity to put forward land for potential development.

Residents, parish councils, landowners, developers and other stakeholders put forward a range of sites during the initial phase last year. These are currently being evaluated using an assessment process set out by government in national policy.

To provide additional opportunities for people to participate, an extra six-week window is now open for those who have yet to take part.

Sites available for a wide range of uses – including housing, employment, leisure, community, open spaces or areas set aside for nature – are being welcomed. If you suggested a site during the initial phase, then please do not resubmit it.

Leader Cllr Jim Martin said: “I want to thank those who made submissions first time round and very much encourage those who didn’t to take advantage of this second opportunity.

“We’re particularly keen for brownfield sites and locations near services, amenities and sustainable transport links – but welcome ideas of all sizes within our boundaries.”

The Call For Sites helps the council identify land potentially available within the district to meet future needs and inform the preparation of the new Local Plan.

Not every proposal will necessarily be taken forward – this stage is an information-gathering exercise. There will be opportunities for residents to have their say on site allocations in the future when drafts of the Local Plan are consulted on.

The Local Plan is subject to an in-depth assessment by independent inspectors appointed by government; the inspectors must give their approval before it can be finalised.

Visit folkestone-hythe.gov.uk/planning-policy for information and to make a submission before the 5pm deadline on Thursday 24 April 2025.
