Latest figures show a gender pay gap of just 0.19% at Folkestone & Hythe District Council.

Using the median - or middle - figure, men earn £15.64 per hour, while women earn £15.61. Last year's figures showed a 10.4% gap nationally and 9% among those in public administration.

The median calculation is often considered a better representation of the typical difference in earnings as very large or small rates of pay can distort a mean average.

Under the Equality Act 2010, employers with 250 or more staff are required to publish their statutory pay gap every year. F&HDC is required to publish six different calculations, including the median figure.

F&HDC Leader Cllr David Monk said: "We remain focussed on supporting equality and diversity and the steps we can take to further reduce the gender pay gap.

"Agile working has long been a part of our culture and we encourage flexibility in working hours and location, which can help those with caring responsibilities. We also provide a range of career development opportunities, including virtual activities that can be accessed at any time, so part-time workers don't miss out."

This year's national figures are not yet available.

The gender pay gap is different to equal pay. The gender pay gap is a measure of the difference between the average earnings of men and women across an organisation.
