A major step forward has been reached in the Folkestone – A Brighter Future project with the announcement of a start date for the scheme and a planned engagement event.

The project will provide a huge boost to the regeneration of Folkestone town centre. Work will begin on the scheme on Monday 7 April 2025 and is due to finish in Summer 2026. The scale of the project means there could be some localised disruption to transport during the scheme, but partners will work to minimise the impact on the public and businesses.

A public engagement event will be held at Folkestone town hall from 10am to 6pm on Friday 4 April and 10am to 3pm on Saturday 5 April. The final designs for the scheme will be on display as well as more detail about the various planned phases of work. A virtual reality experience will also be available for people to try out what walking through the finished scheme will be like and partners from the project will be on hand to answer any queries.

Jackson Civil Engineering have been awarded the contract to deliver the transformational scheme.

Cllr Rich Holgate, Cabinet Member for the District Economy at Folkestone & Hythe District Council, said: “Folkestone – A Brighter Future will be transformational for Folkestone town centre. It’s great news that we’ve got a start date and partners in place who can now make these plans a reality.’

Neil Baker, Kent County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, added: “I am thrilled that we are supporting Folkestone & Hythe District Council to deliver their ambitious project which will see the heart of Folkestone modernised.”

Steve Horton, Regional Director for Jackson Civil Engineering, said: “We are very much looking forward to working closely with Kent County Council, Folkestone & Hythe District Council as well as local stakeholders and residents, to deliver this exciting project for the benefit of the local community.”

Minister for Local Growth Alex Norris said: “It is wonderful to hear work is underway on the Folkestone – A Brighter Future project that will breathe life back into the town centre, bring the community together and provide a vital boost for the local economy.”

“I look forward to further updates as the projects progress and every corner of the country joins us in our mission for growth as part of our Plan for Change.”
