Fly-tipping a double bed base, mattress and drawers has cost a Folkestone man more than £700.

Matthew Strode, of Longford Terrace, dumped the waste on 10 September 2020 and the offence was reported to Folkestone & Hythe District Council by a resident, who provided a witness statement.

Mr Strode failed to attend Folkestone Magistrates' Court for the hearing on 10 May and was convicted in his absence of one count of fly-tipping. He was fined a total of £784, payable within 12 months.

Cllr Stuart Peall - Cabinet Member for Enforcement, Regulatory Services, Waste and Building Control - said: "This case is an example to all that not only is fly-tipping antisocial and a nuisance, it comes at a price.

"We encourage the public to report any fly-tipping incidents for clearing up and investigation. And remember that bulky waste can easily be disposed of using our collection service, or by visiting one of Kent County Council's household waste recycling centres."
