Flying the green flags for another year

Four of the district's beautiful parks will continue to fly the Green Flag after retaining its status for 2022/23.

The Lower Leas Coastal ParkKingsnorth GardensRadnor Park and the Royal Military Canal have all been awarded the prestigious accolade once again.

The award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces which display the highest environmental standards, are beautifully maintained and have excellent visitor facilities.

All four sites are lovingly managed by Folkestone & Hythe District Council's hard-working grounds maintenance team.

Cllr John Collier, Cabinet Member for Property Management and Grounds Maintenance, said: "We're incredibly proud to deliver award-winning quality parks and open spaces for residents and visitors.

"Our grounds maintenance team continue to work hard to ensure we have fantastic places to enjoy across our district and these Green Flags are testament to their efforts."

Leader Cllr David Monk added: "These spaces in our extraordinary district are well-loved by people of all ages and it is brilliant that all four have been given the international quality mark.

"The Lower Leas Coastal Park, Kingsnorth Gardens, Radnor Park and the Royal Military Canal are just some of the exceptional public parks and green spaces we have here in the district."

The Green Flag Award scheme is managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

It recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management across the United Kingdom and around the world.

Keep Britain Tidy's Accreditation Manager Paul Todd said: "The Royal Military Canal, Lower Leas Coastal Park, Radnor Park and Kingsnorth Gardens are vital green spaces for the community in Folkestone & Hythe.

"This award is testament to all the hard work of staff and volunteers, who do so much to ensure that these areas maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award."
