Parking bay suspension

A parking bay suspension enables us to suspend restrictions on parking bays in areas where parking controls have already been implemented, such as controlled parking zones. We can suspend parking by virtue of the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO). A suspension means that the requested bay(s) will be reserved exclusively for your use, for a designated period of time.

Signs will be erected advising other motorists that they cannot park in the parking bay(s). If other motorists do park in the bay(s), a Penalty Charge Notice may be issued (Please note this is the limit of our powers in this respect, we cannot remove vehicles) nor do we provide cones or barriers and therefore cannot guarantee a suspended bay will be free of vehicles on the day(s) of the suspension.

A Parking Bay Suspension may be subject to a subsequent site survey to verify that there is a relevant need, and that the location is suitable for parking. As a result, the terms may be amended or withdrawn.

The Council does not provide refunds or time extensions for periods of absence or for early completion of works. Please bear this in mind when choosing the time period you require.

When would I apply for a parking bay suspension?

You may want to apply for a parking bay suspension in the following circumstances:

  • To ensure traffic movement and safety
  • If you're carrying out essential building or maintenance works
  • For furniture removals
  • If you're filming
  • Special events
  • Weddings or funerals

Please note, that if you require parking to be suspended in an area where there are no parking controls, you should contact Kent County Council instead.

How much does it cost?

£110 - admin charge plus £14 per day per 6 metres

How long will it take to process my application?

We require a minimum of 14 days to process applications. We will assess your request and confirm when your application has been accepted.

Until you receive confirmation from the council you should not assume that your request has been granted. If you park before you receive confirmation that a parking bay(s) has been suspended a Penalty Charge Notice may be issued.
